When our fans catch up on the globe’s best surfing spots, they usually find themselves directed to Australia, Bali or California. But avid surfers in Europe will know that some of the world’s best surfing spots are, in fact, just around the corner.

Western Europe in particular offers an amazing variety of spectacular spots for surf adventures. We at EarPro love surfing. So, here are some of our favourite surfing spots in Europe, including the best times to avoid big crowds:

Peniche, Portugal

The little fishing town of Peniche is one of the most popular and renown surfing areas in Portugal, offering an impressive amount of wave variety. The best months for surfing in Peniche are September and October.

Lofoten, Norway

Lofoten is one of the most beautiful cold water surf locations in the world. Known for the best waves in Norway, Lofoten attracts surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers of all ages and levels of experience.

The best time for surfing is between November and March. Make sure to bring thick, hooded wetsuits, gloves and boots – the water is freezing cold.

Playa De Rodilles, Spain

Playa de Rodilles, located in the North of Spain, is known for its scenery and heavy waves. We, therefore, recommend this spot for intermediate and advanced surfers. The best time to head to Playa de Rodilles for surfing is between November and April.

Sennen Cove, England

Sennen Cove is located in the county of Cornwall in Southern England. For beginners, Sennen Cove is a great surfing spot in the summer – but it can be rather crowded. More advanced surfers should head down to Sennen Cove between September and October, when the surf season peaks and waves are great. Make sure to bring a thick wetsuit, the Atlantic Ocean can be very cold.

Hossegor, France

Hossegor in France is one of the best surfing spots in Europe. Known for its fast, hollow waves, this spot is very popular with local and international surfers. You can surf at Hossegor all year, with the surf season peaking between October and December.

Klitm  øller, Denmark

Klitmøller is mostly known among windsurfers, but also offers great conditions for surfers. The best time to come here to surf is between November and March when the North Sea has more consistent waves and its best swells.

Playa De Las Americas, Tenerife

Playa de las Americas is one of the main surfing spots in Tenerife, offering perfect conditions for surfing all year round. More advanced surfers should come to this spot between October and February.

Bundoran Beach, Ireland

Bundoran Beach is one of Ireland’s best surfing spots, offering an amazing wave quality. Similar to Cornwall in England, the best surfing season in Ireland is between September and October.

Sardinia, Italy

In Sardinia you will find the most consistent waves in the Mediterranean Sea. The island offers a myriad of great surfing spots – you can’t really go wrong here. You can surf in Sardinia all year round but, as with many other surfing spots, the season peaks in winter.
